Split Multipacks — Buy Only What You Need
A Smarter Way to Shop Costco Multipacks
Costco’s multipacks provide great value, but they often contain more than a household needs. Split Multipacks allow you to purchase individual units from larger packs—offering bulk savings without the need for a full case.

This update is part of our ongoing improvements, including clearer product images and the addition of new items throughout the store.
How Split Multipacks Work
1. We Split Multipacks Only When Safe, Practical, and Cost-Effective
All split items on our website come from dry, shelf-stable Costco multipacks that are safe to break down and store. We do not split refrigerated or frozen items. Only items we have approved for splitting will appear with a “Buying Options” selector.
2. When We Split a Multipack for Your Order
If your order includes a split item and we do not have remaining split inventory on hand, we will purchase the full multipack from Costco and separate it:
-
You receive only the quantity you ordered, at our posted split-item price.
-
We keep the remaining units in our inventory for future orders.
This approach ensures you never have to buy a full Costco multipack when you only need one or two pieces.
3. When We Already Have Split Inventory on Hand
If we have leftover units from prior split orders, we will use those to fulfill your order.
In these cases:
-
You receive the same product, at the same posted split-item price
-
You may see a small price adjustment on your final invoice
-
A credit if the full cost of purchasing the multipack is spread across multiple customers
-
A minor add-on if your order completes the last remaining units of a previous split
-
This keeps the process fair for everyone while ensuring we do not waste product.
A Simple Example
-
Costco price for a 12-pack of paper towels: $20.49
-
You only want a 3-pack, so the price you see in the store might be $5.99
(Example deduction: $14.50 removed from the listed price to reflect your share)
At checkout:
-
Shopper buys the full 12-pack for $20.49
On your final invoice:
-
You receive a $14.50 credit
-
Your net cost becomes:
$20.49 – $14.50 = $5.99 (plus markup)
You pay only for the portion you purchased—nothing more. The remaining product is placed into inventory for others to buy as split items.
Why Prices for Split Items Include a Markup
Splitting a Costco multipack involves:
-
Extra handling
-
Extra packaging
-
Inventory management
-
Storage of leftover units
-
Purchasing full packs even when only one item is needed
To support this added service, split items include a slightly higher markup than standard items. This ensures the convenience of small-quantity purchasing remains sustainable.
At Final Checkout, Here’s What You Can Expect
Your final invoice will always reflect:
-
Only the split-item quantity you ordered
-
Any applicable credits or small adjustments
-
The exact Costco receipt total for the remainder of your items
-
Clear line items so you understand what was purchased and why
We deliver transparency on every split-item transaction.
